Prompting basics | Nano Banana
Strong prompts are the fastest way to get predictable, professional output from Nano Banana. This page covers patterns that work well in production.
Prompt structure
A simple template you can reuse:
- Subject — who or what is in the frame.
- Context — environment, era, or use case.
- Style — medium, artist reference, or brand look (keep it high level).
- Camera / light — lens feel, lighting mood, time of day.
- Quality constraints — resolution feel, “sharp focus”, “minimal noise”, etc.
Text and logos
If the image must include readable text:
- Put the exact string in quotes in your prompt.
- State typography expectations: “bold sans-serif”, “hand-lettered”, “neon sign”.
- Mention placement: “centered headline”, “small caption bottom-right”.
Consistency across images
For characters or product lines:
- Reuse the same core description of the subject across prompts.
- Add a style anchor: “same character design as previous”, or a named palette.
- Prefer small controlled changes between generations instead of rewriting everything.
What to avoid
- Vague words without visual meaning (“nice”, “cool”) unless paired with concrete cues.
- Contradictions in the same prompt (e.g. “night” and “harsh noon sun” without intent).
- Overloading a single generation with ten unrelated objects—split into separate images when possible.
Quick checklist
Before you hit Generate, ask:
- Is the main subject obvious in the first sentence?
- Did I specify style and lighting?
- If there is text, is it quoted and positioned?
